The cricketing trends on the social media revolved mostly around the opening match of the 2019 World Cup between hosts England and South Africa at the Kennington Oval in London. England scored 311 in their 50 overs after being put in to bat first by Faf du Plessis. All-rounder Ben Stokes top-scored with 89 runs even as there were half-centuries from Joe Root, Jason Roy, and skipper Eoin Morgan.

Jofra Archer picked up two early wickets of Aiden Markram and Faf du Plessis, and Michael Vaughan feels that his name should be right up there in the team sheet of the Ashes. During their run-chase, the Proteas lost JP Duminy due to a reckless stroke and Dwaine Pretorius also succumbed to a run-out. The dismissals didn’t make former batsman Herschelle Gibbs happy and he was surprised by the reckless approach.

After the end of the first innings, RP Singh reckoned that the Brits were 20 to 30 runs short. Virender Sehwag was happy after getting to commentate with Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. Former Englishman Craig Kieswetter was delighted with the Three Lions’ jersey. Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra put for the semi-finalists- India, Australia, England, and one off South Africa and New Zealand.

Hardik Pandya posted a picture of friendship with teammate Jasprit Bumrah. Shane Warne was happy after returning back to the Oval. Anil Kumble shared a couple of picturesque photos from the venue. Deep Dasgupta shared a picture along with Parthiv Patel and Mohammad Kaif.

Umar Gul wished Pakistan before their World Cup campaign that starts tomorrow against the Windies at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Afsar Zazai also wished Afghanistan luck before their journey gets underway on June 1 against Australia.
