After a tumultuous few months and a failed yo-yo Test, India pacer Mohammed Shami has once again made his way back into the Indian side and is seemingly raring to go. Having become one of the few pacers in the squad who plays only Test cricket, Shami and Ishant Sharma will be the ones many in the side will be looking up when it comes to playing in the arduous overseas conditions.

With the likes of Bhuvneshar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah out of action courtesy of their respective injuries, Shami has now been thrust into the unlikely role of senior pacer int he Indian side. He will be expected to share the new ball alongside Ishant Sharma with Hardik Pandya providing a pace bowling option as well.

Shoaib Akhtar hails Shami’s return

Shoaib Akhtar, the former Pakistan pacer who was arguably the fastest bowler of all time has stated and hailed the return of Shami. Akhtar, who retired from cricket slightly less than a decade back has gone on to state that it would be important for the team management to manage him well.

“Bahut dino aap logon ko Ek heera mila hain. Ise aapko sambhalna hoga (After a long time you have got a diamond. You will have to manage him,” an ecstatic Shoaib Akhtar said as he hailed the return of Mohammed Shami back into the Test side for the Indians.

Despite the injuries prevailing in the Indian squad at the moment, it would seem as though Virat Kohli’s men are indeed the favorites given the fact that they boast of extremely good squad depth as well as cricketers who can indeed get the job done. The first Test begins on Wednesday at Edgbaston.
