England bowlers put up a display of their experience and expertise with the moving ball at Headingley to diminish the Pakistan side for just 174 on the first day. The visitors elected to bat first as the track didn’t have a grass covering like the usual pitch at Leeds.

James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes took three wickets apiece to keep Pakistan down to a low score. The Asian side was reeling at 79/7 before Shadab Khan’s fifty helped them add 95 runs for the last three wickets. England finished the day on 106/2 while they were 68 runs behind Pakistan’s first innings total.
