Swashbuckling opener Fakhar Zaman announced his arrival in International cricket with his majestic century against India in the Champions Trophy final last year. That well and truly marked the arrival of a new hero for Pakistan and Zaman has been performing consistently ever since.
For all the hard work he has put in over the course of time, Fakhar Zaman has been named in the Pakistan Test squad for the first time in his career. Many experts are touting this to be a masterstroke as Zaman has the ability to win games all by himself. Pakistani legend Wasim Akram too had a similar opinion and compared him to some other great openers in the fraternity.
Akram firmly believes that Zaman can put pressure on the bowlers just the way David Warner and Virender Sehwag have done for a long period of time. Warner and Sehwag are touted as two of the greatest openers of all time and their record justify their status. He also quoted that facing the Duke ball will be quite a challenge for the youngster.
“Fakhar Zaman in the Test squad is a big thing. Maybe like Warner and Sehwag, he can put pressure on the opposition. In England, the Dukes ball makes it ideal conditions for the bowlers,” Sport24 quoted Akram, as saying.
Wahab is bowling well, but Test cricket is different
Wahab Riaz has been in the news in recent weeks after coach Mickey Arthur lambasted his work rate. After a decent outing in the Pakistan Super League, Riaz will be disappointed with a fact that he wasn’t included in the Test squad which will travel to England. Akram believes that Wahab bowled well but Rahat Ali is a better option for English conditions.
“Wahab bowled well in PSL but PSL is different from Test cricket. He’s been expensive, though he does get wickets but he isn’t consistent. I think the way Rahat is bowling now means he’ll be a better option, he’s swinging the ball at pace,” Akram said.
