Australia’s stupendous win over South Africa in the first Test match was marred by the altercation between David Warner and Quinton de Kock. The CCTV footage was leaked when the Australian cricketer was continuously swaying words at his counterpart. His teammates were seen controlling him in the tunnel while the players were going back for the team break on the fourth day. However, the former cricketers are giving their opinions on the matter and in the process have got involved in a banter on Twitter.
While the Test match was always going Australia’s way, it was the partnership between Aiden Markram and De Kock which made the visitors nervous and they started sledging them. During one of those moments, the latter seems to have taken a personal dig on Warner as he reacted emotionally over his comment. While sledging is part of the game, the players have to take care that the lines are never crossed. The ICC is reportedly looking over the matter and the verdict on the same is expected soon.
Smith and Gilly in banter
Adam Gilchrist, soon after knowing about the incident, took to the microblogging website Twitter and expressed that something personal should have been said to Warner to evoke such reaction out of him. While this was only a guess from him, the reports resurfaced that the result of the barb was the same and De Kock had said something about Warner’s wife. However, Smith responded to Gilly’s tweet and pointed out the fact that Australians start the sledging and they should be prepared to take the words thrown at them by the opponents as well.
Though both of them agreed that the incident was an unnecessary one given that the Test match was nicely setup at that point in time. While these two former cricketers were having their say on the incident, Michael Vaughan threw his hat in the ring as well and supported Smith’s comment on the same.
Here’s the thread of the convo:
Ugly scenes in Durban. Can only assume something very personal has been throw at @davidwarner31 for this type of reaction. Not a good look all round. #SAvAUS

Gilly- Warner crossed many personal boundaries with the South Africans, so we can’t be surprised when there is eventually a reaction. If players are happy to give it,they have to be prepared to take it,too. On both sides!
But agreed not a good look. #SAvsAUS https://t.co/obTo0GO2H8— Graeme Smith (@GraemeSmith49) March 5, 2018
Hey Biff, you’re much closer to the action than me so thanks for heads up. Whatever the case, going personal is rubbish from anyone. Get on with the cricket. More importantly mate, how are the #biffstix going? ?? @GraemeSmith49 https://t.co/k23HPoUw45
