Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has become the latest to come out and share his views on the non-selection of batsman Fawad Alam for the upcoming tour of England. It seemed as though despite decent performances in the domestic circuit and the Pakistan Super League, Alam had been left out in the cold by the Pakistan selectors for the tour of Ireland and England. The tour begins on the 11th of May.
Speaking about the same, Akhtar went ahead and stated that the selection of the team was a three-way decision between the captain, the chief selector and the coach of the team. Sarfraz Ahmed, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Mickey Arthur decided the team for the tour while leaving Alam out, a unanimous decision, to say the least.
“Without the consent of the captain, how can Alam have not been selected? I am sure the skipper did not ask for Alam,” said Akhtar, while talking to local media.
All three take a decision and not one person
In recent times, many singled out Inzamam-ul-Haq for leaving out Fawad Alam. However, despite this, Shoaib Akhtar has come to the defense of his former teammate saying that all three stakeholders took the call to leave the veteran batsman out of the XI.
“In regards to Alam, the decision was by selectors, captain, and coach and it’s wrong to say that one of them took that decision,” he added.
“The tour of England will be tough but the Test match against Ireland will be tougher as we will face a seaming track. The players will have to grab this opportunity and not say that this is a new team and we find it hard to fight etc. The attitude has to be there to stay on the crease.”
