Despite not being one of the strongest teams ‘on paper’, Gujarat Titans have been on a roll in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, clinching seven of their first eight games. They would like to extend this winning spree as they meet Royal Challengers Bangalore in their next fixture at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. RCB, who had made a great start to the competition, have been struggling a bit and will have a point to prove against the Titans.

The Faf du Plessis-led side failed to chase down a paltry 145 against Rajasthan Royals in their previous assignment. A game prior to this, they were bundled out for 68 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Virat Kohli’s form has been a major concern for them as the talismanic batter is just not being able to score a run. The 33-year-old bagged two golden ducks in his last three outings and GT’s hostile bowling attack will test him once again.

While skipper Faf du Plessis has fired at the top, Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed have been contributing heavily in the lower order. Glenn Maxwell also has a half-century under his belt. In the bowling department, Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood and Harshal Patel have impressed one and all. Though RCB have lost the momentum lately, they still have five wins in nine outings. Hence, GT must not be complacent.

The points table might not suggest but the Titans have their fair share of problems as well. Shubman Gill, after playing a couple of sublime knocks earlier in the season, has been struggling to get going. His opening partner Wriddhiman Saha did slam a match-winning fifty in his last outing, the wicketkeeper-batter hasn’t been consistent either.

The strength lies in the side’s reliable middle-order and a formidable bowling attack. Skipper Hardik Pandya, David Miller and even the young Abhinav Manohar have been among the runs. When these guys haven’t finished the job, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan have taken matters into their own hands. With Alzarri Joseph joining the trio of Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson and Rashid, the bowling attack looks even stronger now. Hence, RCB must buckle up.

Pitch and conditions

Massive runs have been scored at the Brabourne Stadium this season and teams chasing totals have been successful here amid the dew factor. As this is an afternoon game, dew isn’t likely to play a part. No total is safe at this venue as the boundaries are on the smaller side. Having mentioned that, spinners can get some assistance in the middle overs.

GT don’t have any reason to tinker with their playing XI as this combination paid dividends for them in the last game. However, eyes will be on under-fire Shubman Gill and the young batter must get among the runs sooner than later.
