A video of Hotstar, the official application for streaming Indian Premier League (IPL) leaked on social media. Not only that video has caught the eye of the people but has caused a furore. The video was an advertisement showing the finals between Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders. While the Super Kings have qualified for the finals, Sunrisers Hyderabad have to go head-to-head with the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2 to reach the final of the competition.
The promotional video made rounds on social media before the Knight Riders took on the Rajasthan Royals. While many people pointed out that it is one of the videos that Hotstar would have made preparing for the final, the others pointed out that the IPL is a fixed event.
What was the video that was uploaded?
In the video uploaded, Hotstar had made a grand intro title showing both the franchise in a head-to-head style advertisement. The Knight Riders have been arguably one of the top teams in the tournament, alongside the Super Kings who have already made their place to the finals of the competition.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad have had a strong claim on the finals berth, after finishing at the top of the table. However, their loss against the Super Kings means that they have to take on the Knight Riders to have a chance at reaching the finals of the competition.
The final of the competition will be played on May 27 at Wankhede Stadium. Earlier in the day, Hotstar managed to rake in eye-staking number in terms of the viewers for the first qualifier between Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Chennai Super Kings. The first qualifier witnessed record-breaking 8.2 million viewers (82 lakhs) streaming, with the game going down right-to-the-wire.
Twitterati, however, found the advertisement amusing and pointed fingers in multiple directions:
