Highest and lowest totals of IPL teams

T20 cricket has revolutionised the game in unimaginable ways. The game of cricket is renowned for its unpredictability and if anything, the 20-over format has only infused more of it in the game. Who could have imagined target ranges of 200 in 120 balls worth cricket?

The shortest format has left colour on the longer version of the game as well. The definitions of a safe target have changed. What was earlier scored in 50 overs is being made and chased down in 20 overs today. The value of each wicket has diminished drastically with the advent of this format.

The definition of a good batsman is no more the one who settles himself in before going for the shots, but the one who blasts off from the word go. Some changes have been for the good, some for the bad.

Over the years of the IPL, there have been innumerable records that have been scripted by players and the teams. The upcoming one is going to be the 13th edition of the league, and the IPL has stayed around long enough to generate ample statistics and records for us to devour and digest. The tournament has had many, many high-scoring as well as quite a few low-scoring games as well.

Let us take a look at the highest and lowest totals of each team in the history of the IPL:

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Highest – 223/6 against KXIP

The four-time champions posted their highest total in the 2017 edition when they scored 223 at the loss of six wickets, surprisingly, in a losing cause against the Kings XI Punjab. The quick-fire knocks of Wriddhiman Saha (91 from 55) and Glenn Maxwell (47 from 21) led Punjab to 230/3.

In response, Lendl Simmons (59 from 32) and Parthiv Patel (38 from 23) provided a brilliant start to their team before Kieron Pollard (50 from 24) and Hardik Pandya (30 from 13) took MI almost across the line. However, some good death bowling by KXIP restricted MI 7 runs short.

Lowest – 87/10 against SRH

Mitchell McClenaghan, Hardik Pandya, and Mayank Markande bowled with great control and dominance to restrict the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a below-par total of 118 in the 23^rd match of the 2018 edition of the IPL. Little did MI know that Siddharth Kaul, Rashid Khan, and youngster Basil Thampi would build such a web around them that they will never be able to free themselves. Chasing 119 to win, MI was dismissed for a paltry 87 and lost the match by 31 runs.
