Afghanistan will kick start its World Cup campaign against Scotland on October 25. Ahead of the match, the skipper Mohammad Nabi has expressed his excitement to play in the tournament. He also added that as a captain he will try his best to bring the team together as a unit.
Afghanistan will play their opening fixture of the tournament against the in-form Scotland. The team has won all three matches of the tournament so far to make it to the Super 12s. The match between the two teams is scheduled to be played at Sharjah. Nabi thus asserted that the team has experience of playing in the UAE conditions and that they will aim to do their best.
“Really excited. Just at the last moment, I was made the captain. I will try my best to bring my team (together) as a unit. We will try our best and are doing that for the last one and a half weeks. We know each other very well for the last few years. We have played a lot of cricket in the UAE and we know the conditions, like how it’s worked and every player knows that as well. Insha’Allah, we’ll do our best,” said Nabi in the pre-match press conference on Sunday.
Everything will change if we do well in the tournament: Mohammad Nabi
Afghanistan has had a tough time lately owing to the political tensions in the country. The skipper asserted that the fans back home are all raring to watch the action unfold. He added that the team’s victory will give sheer happiness to the fans and their good run in the tournament can change things around in the country.
“Everyone knows that back home in Afghanistan, there’s a lot happening from the last few months. But, from a cricket point of view, everybody is ready and prepared well for this World Cup. The fans are really waiting for that because the only happiness in Afghanistan is cricket.
“If you’re willing to do well in the tournament and we win the games, the fans become really happy and there will be a lot of smiles on their faces. Insha’Allah everything will be changed because of this World Cup if we do well in the tournament,” Nabi added.
