Wrongdoings on the cricket pitch have been going on for ages and have been a debatable issue. The recent ball-tampering fiasco has marred the sanctity of what we refer to as the ‘gentleman’s game’. The incidents have certainly not gone down well with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and they have highly criticized the actions of the players.
Most recently, Shashank Manohar, the chairman of the ICC has taken a stern step to prune the misdemeanors by a significant margin. The board is planning to put forward a group of former players who will be dealing with the matters. The board is likely to conduct a meeting next month surrounding the matter, which is likely to include the likes of Allan Border, Shaun Pollock, Anil Kumble, Mahela Jayawardene and Richie Richardson.
“Not in the spirit of the game”- Manohar
The chairman recently spoke to the media about their courses of action.“Every team wants to win, but players can’t use dubious methods to gain victory. It is not in the spirit of the game. The ICC has taken a serious note of the events in Cape Town and plans to put together a group of former players of impeccable reputation” Manohar was quoted as saying by Times of India.
He also iterated the role which will be enacted by the panel in order to deal with misbehaviors on the field. “The new panel will operate under the existing Code of Conduct but will be free to suggest any action that it may deem fit. The penalty must be such that it deters all cricketers from indulging in such malpractices in future,” he added.
Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft has recently been handed bans, which comes as a body blow for Australian cricket. However, they themselves are blamable for the horrendous offense they committed during the third Test.
