Before the start of this T20I series, there weren’t a lot of expectations from the West Indies. As it was a few months ago, the Indian juggernaut was expected to bag yet another easy series win. But the Caribbean team arrived with a bang in Hyderabad on what was a belter of a pitch. They might not have won the series opener but surely managed to send scares down the Indian camp. Had it not been for that act of brilliance from Virat Kohli, the team could have well bagged a victory.

After this exciting game of cricket, both these teams now move further down south to Thiruvananthapuram. The hosts have got a few things to correct ahead of this fixture. They were extremely sloppy on the field. Moreover, the bowlers have failed to apply themselves well enough. On most occasions, they bowled short of length deliveries asking to be hit. It’d be better if they mix things up and bring in more variations.

As far as the West Indies are concerned, there seem no issues with the batting. The bowlers have failed to execute their plans well at crucial junctures of the game. On that front, they’d want to improve and there might be a few changes there as well. But at the same time, when someone like Virat Kohli plays the way he did in the first game, there is hardly a chance for you as a bowler.

Pitch and Conditions

The Thiruvananthapuram track assists the pacers with a slight bit of extra bounce and the ball tends to skid off the surface. Batsmen will have to take a few balls initially to get a grip over the track before they go for the big shots. Weather-wise, there are no problems for this game.

Team Combinations

India

It is unlikely that India will change the Playing XI for this game. The management has put its weight behind Rishabh Pant and that means Sanju Samson will have to wait longer for his chance. Shivam Dube is likely to get another opportunity ahead of Manish Pandey as he didn’t have much to do in the last game. There is a possibility that India could consider bringing in Kuldeep Yadav if the pitch doesn’t assist much turn like in Hyderabad.

Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar/Kuldeep Yadav,  Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal.

West Indies

West Indies have a change to make and that will surely make them happy. Nicolas Pooran has completed his suspension period and will be slotted straight back into the eleven in place of Denesh Ramdin. Kesrick Williams went for a lot of runs in the last match. Thus, there is a chance that Keemo Paul will make it in his place. Khary Pierre picked up two wickets in the last match but was expensive. The captain and the coach will definitely have a closer look at Fabian Allen and evaluate his form in recent times.

Predicted XI: Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicolas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard (C), Jason Holder, Khary Pierre, Keemo Paul/Kesrick Williams, Hayden Walsh, Sheldon Cottrell.

Probable Top Performers

Rohit Sharma – India | Nicolas Pooran – West Indies
