The former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja believes that the cricketers got to abide by all the doping rules set by the Indian Government. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier had denied recognising the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) even after being approved by the cabinet. However, the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) soon directed NADA to continue conducting the doping tests on the cricketers during the domestic and International matches in India.

The controversy regarding the doping arose when the WADA recently published a report in which it was mentioned that one Indian cricketer was found positive in the doping test in 2016. BCCI did not reveal the name of the cricketer but ensured that the matter has been dealt with. The board follow the process for only its elite cricketers and share the findings of the test directly with WADA and ICC bypassing NADA.

Nobody has a choice

Ajay Jadeja insisted that the decision taken by the Government has to be respected by everyone and the cricketers should abide by all the sope rules set by them. The former Indian all-rounder was in Delhi and speaking during the Run for Unity Programme held to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary at Nehru Park in the capital city of the country.

“I think we have got to abide by all the rules set up by the government. So, nobody has a choice. Here we are at the GST run, so do you have any choice at GST. Once there is a decision take up by the government it is just a matter of time for implementation,” he said while backing the Indian Government. Rahul Bhatnagar, the secretary of ministry of youth affairs and sports, had also cleared earlier that if the Indian board objects with the process then the ministry of sports will deal with the issue.
