Dinesh Karthik handed Vinay the ball. He bowled a waist high full toss first up that Bravo hit for a six, the free hit got them another couple of runs, they played around for singles and needed two from the last two balls. He bowled one in the slot and Jadeja swung it over long-on for a six and CSK took the game.

Vinay had bowled only 1 over in the game before that and wasn’t really the wisest of moves to give him the ball. Also considering he doesn’t have the reputation of bowling Yorkers in the death, bowls just medium pace which is really easy to hit at that stage of the game. He was a last-minute pick in the auction and was pretty understandable that Chris Gayle wouldn’t be the most preferred name to start with. But when Kings XI Punjab did bring him in the side the 38-year-old made it count. It was the third match against Chennai Super Kings where Ravichandran Ashwin felt the need to add him into the XI.

Gayle opened the batting and though did start off with a boundary against Harbhajan looked pretty cautious early on and then sent the ball rolling around the IS Bindra Stadium. In the off-spinner’s next over he unleashed and hit a four and a six on consecutive balls. The medium pacers Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar proved to be easy fodder for Gayle. Evin Lewis and Yadav had an opening stand worth 102 runs. Rohit walked in to bat at his regular No.4 spot but wasn’t still a fruitful outing for him as he was dismissed for 18 at a time when MI needed quick runs.

They lost the game yet again and it could be attributed to the fact that Rohit and others failed to accelerate the innings in the slog overs. For the defending champions to win, the skipper has to come good as he has been a key performer for them over the years.

Washington Sundar stands out among the rest because of his composure, for the fact that he isn’t affected by the pressure the opposition batsmen are trying to exert and if he has been hit for a few boundaries. He goes about business with his plan unfazed. This skill comes to the fore when he bowls in the powerplay.

For a spinner to operate with field restrictions it is extremely difficult since that asks for a lot of control. Sundar has that control is very accurate and has a cool head on his shoulders. Delhi Daredevils though didn’t have a lot of options but had quality choices among the overseas batsmen. They started the season with the big hitter Colin Munro but when he failed twice the DD team management decided to make the change. He was dismissed by Afghan spinner <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/mujeebs-bowling-made-the-difference-in-the-game-ms-dhoni/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mujeeb Ur Rahman</a> in the first match for 4 and bagged a duck in the next. Washington Sundar stands out among the rest because of his composure, for the fact that he isn’t affected by the pressure the opposition batsmen are trying to exert and if he has been hit for a few boundaries. He goes about business with his plan unfazed. This skill comes to the fore when he bowls in the powerplay.
For a spinner to operate with field restrictions it is extremely difficult since that asks for a lot of control. Sundar has that control is very accurate and has a cool head on his shoulders. Delhi Daredevils though didn’t have a lot of options but had quality choices among the overseas batsmen. They started the season with the big hitter Colin Munro but when he failed twice the DD team management decided to make the change. He was dismissed by Afghan spinner <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/mujeebs-bowling-made-the-difference-in-the-game-ms-dhoni/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mujeeb Ur Rahman</a> in the first match for 4 and bagged a duck in the next. That’s when Delhi turned to England opener Jason Roy.
In his debut match for the franchise, he played a thunderous knock. He stood there, saw the innings through, lost partners, sustained the pressure, backed himself and in the end scored the winning runs against Mumbai Indians to remain unbeaten on 91 as Daredevils secured their maiden win this season.
Though Munro’s class and abilities cannot be questioned, traditionally big hitters from that part of the world haven’t fared really well in the IPL and Englishmen, on the other hand, have enjoyed great success. That said it will be interesting to see if Roy can replicate this knock in the next few games and win his team crucial matches.
