He had seldom done that in the past but this time around Indian limited-overs and the captain of the Mumbai Indians, opener Rohit Sharma decided to start the innings for his franchise. The right-hander is a really good player against the new ball but not when it is moving. T20 isn’t the format where this happens a lot but he was struggling against Deepak Chahar in the season opener didn’t know whether to swing at it or let it go.

MI needs good starts to post the big totals. Rohit’s returns of 15 and 11 coupled with the fact that Mumbai lost two close games didn’t help their cause.

Eventually, the team addressed this and Suryakumar Yadav opened in the 3rd match against Delhi Daredevils. Evin Lewis and Yadav had an opening stand worth 102 runs. Rohit walked in to bat at his regular No.4 spot but wasn’t still a fruitful outing for him as he was dismissed for 18 at a time when MI needed quick runs.

They lost the game yet again and it could be attributed to the fact that Rohit and others failed to accelerate the innings in the slog overs. For the defending champions to win, the skipper has to come good as he has been a key performer for them over the years.
