After failing to do his bit with the bat for the first few games, South African youngster Quinton de Kock registered a timely half-century on Wednesday. He stitched a crucial partnership with his fellow Proteas teammate AB de Villiers, who exhibited another one of his masterclasses. But unfortunately for their side, they ended up at the wrong side of things despite working so hard.

Bangalore posted a humongous 205 runs on the board. But Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni‘s mind-boggling partnership engulfed the hosts from gaining two crucial points. It was another massive setback for Kohli and his men as they aim to enter the final four of the tournament. In the press conference after the game, Quinton de Kock reckoned their side was on par with CSK.

He also complimented Chennai’s batting depth which gives them some extra confidence whilst chasing such big totals. De Kock said RCB gave their best but it was just not their day.

“We actually thought we’re on par. We were speaking about 200 and so, we got the total we wanted. Unfortunately, one or two wickets meant we couldn’t get to a higher total. We thought the score was more than just on par.

“The thinking was, Chennai have got a long batting line-up and we were trying to get early wickets, which we did. The norm against Chennai is to get wickets early or else they’ll bat you out in 20 overs. We gave our best chance, picked as many wickets as we can but… I think us and CSK both played really well,” De Kock said.

We have to come back better next time

Terming that this defeat is a bitter pill to swallow, Quinton de Kock reckons their side should get out of the disappointment and think of ways to make a comeback from here. Bangalore will next up host the Kolkata Knight Riders in a must-win clash for both sides to keep up with the competition.

It’s just one of those days when you don’t want to be on the losing side. That’s just the disappointment. Obviously, it’s a tough pill to swallow. We’ve got to come back better next time and that’s how it’s going to be,” de Kock added.
