IPL 2018: Chris Morris ruled out of the tournament; replacement announced

Delhi Daredevils (DD) are going through tough times in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They are languishing at the bottom of the points table and their skipper Gautam Gambhir has also resigned mid-way through the season. While the new skipper would be expecting to turn things around for his team, they have been dealt with a huge blow. Chris Morris has been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to an injury and Junior Dala has been named as his replacement.

Morris was retained by the franchise in the player retention event earlier this year and had paid him a whopping amount of Rs 7.1 Crores. Moreover, he didn’t feature in the last couple of matches as well. He was not even in great form this year and had scalped only 3 wickets playing in 4 matches at an economy of 10.21. The South African failed to even perform with the bat and scored only 46 runs.

Interesting replacement

According to the reports in ESPN Cricinfo, Chris Morris has sustained an injury and unfortunately will not play any further part this season. Though his replacement Junior Dala is an exciting one who made his international debut only in February earlier this year in the three-match T20I series against India. The news was already doing the rounds about his participation in the league for Daredevils. But it wasn’t entirely clear in whose place he was going to play.

Dala was impressive in his debut series against India and went on to scalp Rohit Sharma in all the three matches. Though he was expensive in that series, his career economy in the shortest format is 8.21 and is known to trouble the best in the world with his pace bowling. He will be an interesting prospect to watch out for and surely is expected to play straightaway as he arrives in India.
