In 2015, he was the biggest buy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction with a price tag of Rs 16 crore. On December 18, dashing Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh almost missed the IPL bus as he went unsold in the first round but saw former champions Mumbai Indians (MI) coming to his rescue in the rapid-fire bidding, buying him for Rs 1 crore, his base price. This is the second successive season that the cricketer, who recently turned 37, sold at his base price.

Eyes were glued to the auction session in Jaipur to know what destiny had in store for Yuvraj, who now is set to play for his sixth IPL team like Ishant Sharma and Parthiv Patel and is just one short of Aaron Finch’s seven. Given the player’s popularity, the fans were eager to know whether he will make it to the IPL again, thanks to his growing age and sliding form, and his pick left the Twitter happy.

Even two franchises — Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) reacted to the MI’s choice of Yuvraj, the Player of the Tournament of 2011 World Cup which India won. Yuvraj has played in 10 IPL editions since its inception in 2008, missing the 2012 edition because of cancer, and has scored 2,652 runs in 128 matches at a strike rate of 129-plus. He also has 36 wickets in the tournament.

Here is Kings XI’s reaction:

CSK tweeted this:

The Kings said in their tweet that they miss Yuvraj, who played for them in the initial years and then in the last season and was released in November after a poor form. The CSK, on the other hand, expressed their surprise over the pick of Yuvraj by three-time champions MI, tweeting “OH MI GAWD”.

Yuvi had a poor last season but still has an impressive T20 record

Yuvraj’s form last year (65 runs in eight matches) will make many believe whether the Indians did it right by taking him this year, but the player’s reputation in T20 cricket perhaps is still giving him the benefit of doubt. In 223 T20s that Yuvraj has played so far, he has scored 4,686 runs with 26 half-centuries besides taking 80 wickets.
