In pursuit of the top spot, Delhi Capitals’ young brigade locked horns with Dinesh Karthik’s men in the 16th match of the IPL 2020 at a mouth-watering Sharjah wicket. After clinching two of their first three IPL 2020 games, both the teams were eyeing to add a third one under their belt.

In an absolute riot of boundaries, both teams crossed the 200-run mark. But in the end, it was Shreyas Iyer’s troops who defended 228 runs and clinched the victory bu 18 runs. With the win, DC also clinched the first position in the IPL 2020 points table.

Considering the dew factor, Karthik elected to field first after winning the toss as fans witnessed the Shikhar Dhawan-Prithvi Shaw pair making their way into the middle. With Sharjah as the venue, it was anticipated to be a high-scoring thriller laced with massive sixes.

Shreyas Iyer stole the show with his blistering 88

DC had a steady start as Shaw and Dhawan stitched a 50-run opening stand before the end of Powerplay. Dhawan, on the penultimate ball of the sixth over, departed on 26 but Shaw continued to roll out boundaries from his willow. The young gun gathered 66 off 41 deliveries before getting dismissed by his Under-19 India teammate Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

After the dismissal of both the opener, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant provided fans with some fireworks. While skipper Iyer rose higher with his blistering 38-ball 88, Pant slammed 38 off 17 to notch up a dominant total. On the back of blistering knocks from both the youngsters, Capitals amassed a daunting 228-run total on the board.

In response, KKR’s opening woes continued as Anrich Nortje dismissed Sunil Narine in the second over. Shubman Gill stitched a vital 28-run knock but he also failed to score a prolonged knock. Nitish Rana, meanwhile, slammed a half-century to keep KKR in the game. The southpaw kept hitting boundaries to keep the asking run-rate under control. However, after his departure, KKR suffered a batting debacle as they lost 3 wickets in six deliveries including the prized wicket of Rana.

But the Eoin Morgan-Rahul Tripathi pair put up a blistering batting show at the end and the trend of witnessing a run-fest at Sharjah continued. It was still an uphill task for KKR as they required 31 runs to win in the last two overs.

Both Morgan and Tripathi were eventually dismissed as DC pocked the encounter at Sharjah by 18 runs. Fans were left stunned by witnessing DC skipper Iyer’s carnage at Sharjah. They lauded the skipper’s knock and also heaped praise on Pant for assisting him well.
