Still, both the teams have held on to their original positions in the points table.

The battle for finishing in the top four seems to intensify with each passing game. Only Chennai and Mumbai are all but out of reckoning, with each of the other eight teams still very much in contention for the playoffs race. The pocket-sized dynamite from Australia is having yet another great IPL season. He has already accumulated 356 runs so far at an average nearing 60 and a strike rate over 155. This week, he had a rare failure against the Lucknow Super Giants where he could manage only three runs.

However, he made up in the very next game, by striking a commendable 92*(58) where he clobbered three maximums and 12 fours. Together with Rovman Powell, he forged a 100-plus partnership to post a competitive score of 207.  He took calculated risks and was in complete control of his game as he carried his bat through the innings.

Ironically, it came against his former franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he had helped them lift the title in 2016. While SRH may no longer consider <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ill-leave-that-to-jos-david-warner-after-missing-out-on-a-hundred-against-srh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Warner </a>a captaincy option, he has been chosen to lead this side not only due to his seniority but because of his newly found sense of reassurance and calmness that he brings.

The South African-born Kiwi batsman came into IPL as one of the most in-form players, due to his exploits for his national side. However, he has been in and out of the side so far. Nonetheless, he has managed to score 144 runs in the three innings he has gotten a chance to bat.

The first game that he played this week was against SRH where he created the highest opening partnership in IPL alongside <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/faf-du-plessis-will-be-jealous-ruturaj-gaikwad-gets-sarcastic-after-his-record-partnership-with-devon-conway/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ruturaj Gaikwad</a>. He scored 85*(55) consisting of eight fours and four sixes. His inning was instrumental in the side&#8217;s victory as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to stop the juggernaut of losses, albeit for one match only.

Later in the week, came the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) which has put a full stop to CSK&#8217;s playoffs hopes, effectively. However, the silver lining in that match was Conway&#8217;s effort with the bat. In pursuit of 174, Conway played a breezy 56(37) and kept his side in the hunt. Retained by CSK ahead of IPL 2022 auctions, Moeen Ali had huge expectations lined up in front of him by the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-match-55-predicted-chennai-super-kings-playing-xi-vs-delhi-capitals/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CSK </a>management. However, due to indifferent form and injury concerns, Moeen hasn&#8217;t been able to perform to the best of his abilities this season. This week though, he had a fine outing against his former team, RCB.

The fearsome striker from Lancashire may not have registered a high score in IPL yet, but his quickfire cameos here and there have always been impactful. Add to that his handy spin bowling options, thereby making him a complete T20 package.

He played only one game this week but made sure to contribute with both bat and ball. With the ball in hand, he picked the wicket of the dangerous David Miller. Chasing just 144, he managed to finish the match in just the 16th over, hence improving his side&#8217;s net run rate as well, which could come in handy later as the battle for playoffs heats up.

He scored his 30 runs in just 10 balls, with 28 of them coming in the 16th over against Shami. This over also included that famous 117m six. This year, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/might-be-as-big-as-the-one-i-hit-you-in-sharjah-liam-livingstone-hilariously-trolls-kagiso-rabada-after-117-metre-hit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Livingstone</a> finally is living up to the hype that has been built over the years around his explosive strokeplay, and Punjab would be hoping for a lot more of such innings from him if they are to make it to the final four this year.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-rovman-powell-hopes-breaking-liam-livingstones-record-of-117m-six/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rovman Powell</a> recently revealed that he was told by the DC management that he will play all the matches this season, despite his not-so-good scores in the first half of the tournament. That backing finally seems to have paid off as we are now seeing the destructive side of Powell, a glimpse of which we saw in an international match against India earlier this year.

In the game against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Powell scored 35(21), which included three fours and two sixes. DC eventually lost that game, and one would have hoped for a bigger score from Powell. Against SRH however, Powell lived up to the promise shown in the prior games and struck a breathtaking 67* from just 35 balls, and hammered six sixes and three fours in the process.

What was interesting to see in that innings was the way he countered Umran Malik in the final over. Malik was bowling around 155 kmph, but Powell was sending it back even quicker. He smashed three fours and a six in that final over against Malik to ensure that DC crossed 200 and get back to winning ways.

The tall pacer from South Africa is again a Purple Cap contender this year. So far, he has managed to pick up 18 wickets in just ten games. Even though his economy rate has been over eight runs per over, he still manages to pick wickets at crucial times.

Against Gujarat Titans (GT), he picked up four wickets and kept plugging at regular intervals. An innings-defining moment happened when he picked up the dangerous duo of Tewatia and Rashid Khan in consecutive deliveries. Those two wickets meant that GT was restricted to an average score of 143, which Punjab chased easily with four overs to spare.

He has formed a great bowling partnership with Arshdeep and the duo has delivered at the death many times this season. Although he is known for his fast bowling, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/i-view-it-as-the-pinnacle-of-cricket-kagiso-rabada-recalls-his-test-call-up-says-he-remembers-it-vividly/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rabada</a> is a more than useful batter as well coming at number eight.

Riley Meredith went for a hefty amount at auction last year for the Punjab Kings but failed to impress. This year though, he represents the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise and has managed to make an impact in the limited opportunities he has received so far.

He was mighty impressive in the game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) as he returned with figures of 2-24 from his quota of four overs. He restricted the RR batsmen at the death by picking up the wickets of Riyan Parag and the dangerous-looking R Ashwin. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/opinion-how-can-mumbai-indians-get-back-to-the-winning-ways/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mumbai Indians</a> went on to win their first game of the tournament and Meredith played a crucial part in that game.

Meredith is still a newbie as far as IPL is concerned, but MI can look at him and expect bigger things. Under the tutelage of Bumrah, Meredith can be a potent force with the ball, and with Archer set to join MI next year, we can already start to hype MI&#8217;s pace attack for the next few seasons.

Although he boasts of a bowling average of 35.33, this season hasn&#8217;t quite been the year even Boult would have anticipated. While he operates mostly with the new ball, it&#8217;s his skills at the death which require some improvement.

In the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Boult managed to send the opposition skipper Shreyas Iyer back into the hut, although it wasn&#8217;t enough as KKR went on to win the match. His economy though was impressive as he gave away just 6.2 runs per over.

Against MI, he was a touch expensive as he gave away 26 runs in the three overs that he bowled. Even though he picked up the wicket of Ishan Kishan, it wasn&#8217;t enough as RR ended up on the losing side at the end. Although his team lost both the matches this week, his performances were noteworthy, as they mostly have been.

Theekshana has joined an already spin-heavy team but has been their best buy this season by a margin.

The “mystery spinner” from Sri Lanka has been in great form for <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/it-was-going-to-be-difficult-for-ravindra-jadeja-no-matter-what-shane-watson-on-india-all-rounder-relinquishing-csk-captaincy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CSK</a>, who are indeed having a poor season. Theekshana has joined an already spin-heavy team but has been their best buy this season by a margin.
This week, he managed to put up a couple of strong performances, although only one of them resulted in a win for his side. Against SRH, he bowled his four overs at just 6.5 runs apiece. Against RCB, however, he did even better as he picked up three wickets, and that too of Lomror, Hasaranga and Shahbaz Ahmed.
The fact that all three of his wickets came in the penultimate over of the match goes on to show that Theekshana is a versatile bowler capable of bowling at the death too. While this year is all but over for CSK, he certainly can be expected to make much more of an impact in the coming seasons.

Still, both the teams have held on to their original positions in the points table.
The battle for finishing in the top four seems to intensify with each passing game. Only Chennai and Mumbai are all but out of reckoning, with each of the other eight teams still very much in contention for the playoffs race. The pocket-sized dynamite from Australia is having yet another great IPL season. He has already accumulated 356 runs so far at an average nearing 60 and a strike rate over 155. This week, he had a rare failure against the Lucknow Super Giants where he could manage only three runs.
However, he made up in the very next game, by striking a commendable 92*(58) where he clobbered three maximums and 12 fours. Together with Rovman Powell, he forged a 100-plus partnership to post a competitive score of 207.  He took calculated risks and was in complete control of his game as he carried his bat through the innings.

The South African-born Kiwi batsman came into IPL as one of the most in-form players, due to his exploits for his national side. However, he has been in and out of the side so far. Nonetheless, he has managed to score 144 runs in the three innings he has gotten a chance to bat.

Retained by CSK ahead of IPL 2022 auctions, Moeen Ali had huge expectations lined up in front of him by the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-match-55-predicted-chennai-super-kings-playing-xi-vs-delhi-capitals/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CSK </a>management. However, due to indifferent form and injury concerns, Moeen hasn&#8217;t been able to perform to the best of his abilities this season. This week, he managed to put up a couple of strong performances, although only one of them resulted in a win for his side. Against SRH, he bowled his four overs at just 6.5 runs apiece. Against RCB, however, he did even better as he picked up three wickets, and that too of Lomror, Hasaranga and Shahbaz Ahmed.
The fact that all three of his wickets came in the penultimate over of the match goes on to show that Theekshana is a versatile bowler capable of bowling at the death too. While this year is all but over for CSK, he certainly can be expected to make much more of an impact in the coming seasons.
