The 63rd match of the IPL 2022 witnessed a clash between the Rajasthan Royals and the Lucknow Super Giants at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. RR made a brilliant comeback after losing three out of their previous four games and moved a step closer to sealing the playoffs berth as they defeated LSG by 24 runs.

Rajasthan Royals had a good start to their innings, as despite losing Jos Buttler (2 off 6) in the powerplay, the top-order batters managed to notch 51 runs in the first six overs. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal(41 off 29) and Sanju Samson (32 off 24) were on fire, and the latter’s dismissal in the ninth over, after a good run, made way for Devdutt Padikkal (39 off 18), who was also in good form with the bat. LSG’s plan of getting Ayush Badoni into the attack worked wonders as he broke the budding partnership and dismissed Jaiswal

Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi kept things tight for RR as wickets fell in succession. Riyan Parag (19 off 16) and Jimmy Neesham (14 off 12) went walking back early as the latter got run out in a huge mess-up with Ravichandran Ashwin. Trent Boult (17* off 9) added some quick runs towards the end alongside Ashwin (10* off 7) as RR ended up scoring 178 runs.

RR bounced back stronger and defeated LSG to stay alive in the playoffs race

LSG did not have a dream start either as they lost the top-order early into the chase. The wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock (7 off 8) walked back to the pavilion in the very first ball of the third over, and youngster Ayush Badoni followed him on the very next ball, being dismissed for a duck courtesy of speedster Trent Boult. Next up was skipper KL Rahul (10 off 19) who fell into Prasidh Krishna’s trap as LSG ended the powerplay scoring 34 runs at the loss of three wickets.

Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya steadied the ship for a while and kept finding the gaps at regular intervals, but a sensational catch by Parag over the fence helped Ashwin get his first wicket of the day in the form of Pandya (25 off 23). RR’s next target was Hooda (59 off 39), who wreaked havoc on the field keeping LSG’s hopes alive, but Yuzvendra Chahal dished him out to keep RR in the lead. Back-to-back wickets towards the end broke LSG’s momentum as RR won the game to move to the second spot in the points table.
