8. Chennai Super Kings: 2.5/10
Just like the Sunrisers Hyderabad, CSK as well had a poor season. The defending champions never looked like they were in this tournament to win. With four wins out of 14 games, it was a below-par result for them.
They had lost the momentum during the auction only. With no Faf du Plessis and Shardul Thakur, the pressure was immense on MS Dhoni and company. Adding on, over dependency on Mukesh Choudhary and certain other bowlers hampered their performances as well. Not having Deepak Chahar available was a big disadvantage.
CSK did produce some memorable matches though. This time as well, Ruturaj was their best performer. Adding on, Jadeja’s poor outing overall meant that Dhoni had to take back the role of captaincy as well. This was a dark time as fans were not able to understand what was happening in the side.
