To make the game interesting and bring novelty, the Big Bash League (BBL) organizers introduced the rule of ‘Power Surge’ in the 2020-21 season. Since its implementation, it certainly has achieved much popularity and is being hailed by the cricket community. In this rule, only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle and can be taken at any point after the 10th over of the innings by the batting team, and it goes on for two overs.

These two overs have a direct impact on the outcome of the match, as both teams try to outsmart each other with their skills. Taking it as a reference, IPL can have a similar rule, which will improve the pressure handling capability of the bowlers, and will also invite batters to enhance their skills to score runs.

Instead of two overs, the power surge of one over can be laid out in the tournament. In this particular over, the runs scored by the batting team will get doubled and will get added up to the total posted by them. This move will make the captain of the fielding team save his best bowler during this over. Hence, the excitement level is expected to be top-notch.
