The two teams will look to get on the winning track with this game. While Mumbai’s chances to make it into the playoffs this year have blurred, Lucknow have displayed strong potential to make their place in the top-four. The KL Rahul-led side will look to bounce back after their previous defeat.

Lucknow’s previous encounter with Mumbai was in their favor as they defeated the five-time champions courtesy of skipper Rahul’s unbeaten ton. In that meeting, not a single MI bowler could stand successful against Rahul as he opened the innings to put up a 50-run stand with Quinton de Kock, and scored 103*(60).

Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis were dismissed within the powerplay as LSG had got the early breakthrough. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma added some crucial runs during the chase, but their efforts were just not enough. In all other games as well, Yadav and Varma have been the team’s saviors. The top order of MI has not been able to perform much this season and the middle-order batters have been anchoring the game.

MI will look to get some wins under their belt  as this season has been their worst start in the IPL history. On the other hand, LSG will try and work on their strategies to pull off a similar stunt as they did in the previous encounter. The team will have to work together, and not just depend upon one or two players.

Pitch and conditions

Wankhede Stadium, the home ground of Mumbai Indians, does have a batting-friendly surface. Spinners will like the turn, but big-hitters will enjoy playing at the venue. The pitch has something good to offer for the batters, which was visible during RR vs DC match where the former scored a whopping 222 runs.

The top-order can be trusted as LSG have big hitters like Rahul and Quinton de Kock. Manish Pandey will look to regain his form as he has been a performer in the past. Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni and Krunal Pandya will hold the game tight in the middle and make their bat talk. All four of them have displayed some great performances and will be expected to do so.
