Bangladesh yet again failed to conquer the Indians in a dramatic last-ball finish which saw wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik slam an innings of a lifetime. The match looked out of India’s hand after a wicket-maiden 18th over from Mustafizur Rahman where Vijay Shankar batting first time in his short career failed to put the bat on ball for 4 consecutive deliveries. However, Dinesh Karthik had different plans for the night. India captain revealed that he did not see Karthik hitting the final six during his post-match press conference.

India needed 34 runs in 2 overs when he walked in. Bangladesh‘s one of the best bowler of the tournament Rubel Hossain had the ball in his hands for the penultimate over. Karthik slammed 24 runs in the over as hit 2 sixes and 2 fours in the over.

Indians needed 12 runs in the final over. However, It was struggling Vijay Shankar on strike for the last over. Bangladesh had to make a choice for the final over. A crucial 4 from Shankar before getting out on the 5th ball meant that India needed a six to seal the trophy while a boundary would mean a super over was on the card. But it was cool-headed Dinesh Karthik whose extra-cover six meant that India lifted the trophy.

Went inside to get ready for super over: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma in the press-conference revealed that he missed the last ball six as he went inside to wear his pads for the probable super over. “I had walked back in the dressing room to wear my pads,” said Rohit who himself had set the tone for the run chase with his consecutive T20 fifty against Bangladesh.

Rohit felt that Karthik showed his power in a crucial time even after getting very fewer opportunities to bat in the series. Rohit in his conversations with the reporters also revealed why he sent Vijay Shankar ahead of Karthik. According to Rohit, he wanted an experienced member to stay for the final moments in the game.
