Mohammed Shami summoned by Kolkata Police over cheque bounce case

Mohammed Shami’s tussle with wife Hasin Jahan started back in March and the same has only intensified with the passage of time. Earlier, she accused Shami of domestic violence, delivering death threats and involvement in match-fixing and extramarital affairs. The Indian fast-bowler pleaded guilty, but Jahan kept iterating her accusations against the Bengal cricketer.

Earlier in April, the pacer’s wife filed a case against Shami, asking him to pay INR 10 lakhs per month for her monthly expenses. Later, Zakir Hussain, Hasin’s lawyer, claimed that the INR 1 lakh cheque, which Shami gave to Jahan, bounced. In a recent development surrounding the case, Kolkata’s Alipore Court has summoned Shami on September 22 as per reports in Mojo News.

Shami’s ardent times

Earlier, Hasin Jahan approached a number of prominent personalities- Mamata Banerjee, the Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal and CK Khanna, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Owing to the accusations, his contract for the national team was also withheld by the cricket board. His participation in the IPL for the Delhi Daredevils also came under the clouds.

The Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) and the Committee of Administrators (CoA), headed by Vinod Rai, did a thorough investigation of the matter. During the tough times, he asked for the matter to be resolved at the earliest. However, afterward, he was found innocent in the match-fixing and he was given a Grade-B contract by the cricket board.

He didn’t have an impressive tournament having played only four matches in which he picked up only three wickets. The pacer flunked in the much-debated yo-yo test and missed India’s historic Test match against Afghanistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Nevertheless, he cleared the exam earlier this month and was also included in the Test squad for India’s upcoming series.
