The Multan Sultans stunned the Islamabad United in the fourth match of the PSL 2019. The team registered a superlative 5-wicket win in this game to register their first win of this season. This special win has to be attributed to the bowlers of the Sultans, Ali Shafiq in particular.
They put up a terrific show to restrict a strong batting side like Islamabad United to just 125 runs in the first innings of the match. Except for Luke Ronchi, no one else could really contribute with the willow. The wicket-keeper alone scored 51 runs which came off 33 balls. 20 runs each from Faheem Ashraf and Samit Patel was the next highest score in the innings. The side only managed to score 125 runs in 20 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
Ali Shafiq says his hero is Jasprit Bumrah
Expect for Chris Green and Andre Russell, all the other bowlers were amongst the wickets. While Shahid Afridi, Junaid Khan and Ali Shafiq picked up two wickets each, the youngster was the most impressive. The 22-year-old bowled tight lines and didn’t give any bad balls on offer to the batsmen.
In his quota of four overs, Shafiq only conceded 11 runs and has put up quite a few variations on display as well. The right-arm pacer was thus awarded the Man of the Match for this great show right on his debut in the league. After this show, Ali Shafiq revealed that Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is his hero as per reports in Pak Passion.
With skipper Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi playing good knocks, his team got over the line in just 18.4 overs. Even though they should have got there much earlier, the Islamabad bowlers were great on the night and weren’t willing to throw in the towel as easily.
