In a very positive move, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) have approved the membership status of Puducherry in the official circles of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As per the recent quotes in PTI, the CoA confirmed the status of Puducherry as an associate member of the national cricket board.
There were three parties who contested to be the representative body for the Union Territory in the BCCI. The Supreme Court had recently asked the CoA to evaluate these three contesting bodies and finalise one of them as the official cricket board of the place. Now, the CoA has given its verdict and have selected the Cricket Association of Puducherry (CAP) as the cricket representative of the UT.
The membership of the UT was earlier approved by the board at the SGM held among the top officials. However, details about who would take in charge of the association and cricket in the city was left unknown. Now, CAP is all set to govern cricket in the well known Indian Union Territory.
The move is being seen as a great move to popularize the game furthermore in the country. There are various parts in the nation where the talented cricketers are deprived of proper platform to showcase their talent. Now, with moves such as these, the problems are likely to end.
CoA’s statement
“The COA is of the view that there is no reason not to accept the recommendation of the Affiliation Committee and grant affiliation to the CAP. The submission made and documents submitted by the claimants do not disclose any reason, let alone compelling reasons, to reject the Affiliation Committee’s recommendation which has been made after two visits to Puducherry,” the CoA mentioned.
“Accordingly, the decision of the COA is that the CAP should be granted associate membership for the Union Territory of Puducherry,” said the COA.
