The sight of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma walking out to open the batting for India in the fifth T20I has sent the cricketing world into a tizzy. The two batting behemoths absolutely pounded the England bowling attack in the fifth T20I and put on a splendid 94-run opening stand for the Indian side.

Kohli and Rohit are also the top two run-scorers in the world in the T20I format. While Kohli has plundered a colossal 3159 runs in T20Is at an average of 52.65, Rohit has amassed 2864 runs at an average of 32.54. Also, the two batsmen have scored a whopping 50 half-centuries between them.

Kohli has now given a hint about India’s opening combination for the 2021 T20 World Cup. The Indian skipper stated that he will open in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well, and added that he has batted at various positions in his career. Kohli further revealed that he would love to partner the ‘Hitman’ at the top of the order and said that it is important for the two best batsmen in the side to face the most number of deliveries. Kohli also reasoned that if one out of him or Rohit can bat through the end, they could cause a lot of damage.

“I am going to open in the IPL as well. I have batted in different positions in the past. But I feel we have a solid middle-order now. I would like to partner Rohit through to the 2021 World Cup. It’s about the two best batsmen batting most balls. If anyone of us can stay on, we can cause a lot of damage. Other guys feel a lot more confident when one of us is still in and is set,” said Kohli in the post-match press conference.
