Rohit Sharma applauds the match winning efforts of his spinners

The Men in Blue led by stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma looked absolutely sensational and dominant in the 1st T20I match against Sri Lanka at Cuttack. The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with their biggest win by 93 runs. The two wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav were the chief architects of the victory. Sharma applauded the efforts of the spinners who bowled incredibly well to craft their the victory.

The Sri Lankan skipper Thisara Perera called it right at the toss and elected to field first. The decision almost backfired with the host getting off to flying start. They had already scored 50 runs in the powerplay. That set up the intensity which glided India to an above par total of 180 runs.

Their chase was dented regularly by the spinners especially Chahal who took wickets at crucial intervals. As a result, the visitors were bowled out for paltry total of 87 runs and the leg-spinner was awarded the Player of the Match for his superb spell of four wickets.

These two are wicket-taking options

The Indian Team skipper hailed the performance of the two young spinners who never allowed the opposition batters to score runs at their will. Sharma also admitted that both Chahal and Kuldeep have evolved as the prime wicket-taking option in the middle overs which is very important aspect in limited overs cricket.

They are doing everything that the selectors and the team management expect them to. The right-hander also commended them for their impressiveness and the ability to pick up wickets at crucial stages which makes it difficult for the opposition to capitalise the moments.

”Those two guys, if you look at their careers over the last few months, they have always been a wicket-taking option in the middle. It’s important to understand what the team expects of them and they’ve delivered. They don’t fail to impress us,” said Sharma after the conclusion of the 1st T20I.
