West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer was bagged by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) side in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction for a sum of INR 8.5 Crores. And now, Hetmyer has stated that he is really excited to turn out for the Royals in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League.

Adding that he has heard good things about the franchise from his teammate Evin Lewis, the left-hander said that he is eagerly waiting to be a part of the RR setup and enjoy in the 2022 season of the IPL.

“I’m really excited to get going for the Royals. I’ve heard some really nice things about the franchise from my good friend Evin Lewis, and I can’t wait to get going and just enjoy myself as part of the squad,” said Hetmyer as quoted by India Today.

My first season in the IPL was a challenging one: Shimron Hetmyer

Shimron Hetmyer also said that his very first season in the IPL, where he turned out for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) outfit was a really challenging one. The 25-year-old also admitted that being the only West Indian who was a part of the RCB setup was tough. He also stated that the time he has spent playing in the IPL has been a learning experience for him. The left-hander added that he is not pressurized because of the amount he is getting paid and concluded by stating that RR has the potential to win the trophy.

“My first season in the IPL at RCB was a challenging one, for a young player, and being the only West Indian in the squad was a tough one to start off in franchise cricket. IPL, in general, has been a wonderful learning experience that has taught me to look at myself and my game differently and has enabled me to learn and develop the right processes. There’s no pressure of the price tag on me, it’s a challenge to help the Royals when I’m out there. I believe there is big potential in the squad to bring the cup home this year,” concluded Hetmyer.
