Team India performed exceedingly well in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa. They were clinical throughout their campaign and comprehensively humbled the hosts by a margin of 5-1. While their batsmen have racked up runs, the bowlers have churned out immaculate channels and strangled the Proteas. However, it was spinners who paved India’s way for the stupendous victory.
The spin-duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal has been scintillating for India in their departments. Subsequently, they have nipped out 33 wickets and emerged as the leading wicket-takers of the series. Their master performances have earned accolades and appreciations for them from the cricketing world. Recently, Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian batsman, hailed the wrist spinners for their rich vein of form in a recent interaction with the media.
Kul-Cha: Double Trouble
“When it comes to batting, we speak about the number of runs scored but we are also winning matches because during those middle overs where the two wrist spinners (Kuldeep and Chahal) are bowling which is obviously heart-warming because one did not get to see wrist spinners much few months back,” Sachin was quoted as saying to The Hindu.
The Master Blaster also highlighted the struggles of the opposition batsmen in reading the wrist-spinners. “They (rival teams) are trying to figure out what are the right options to score runs against them. What is the right option to survive. What are the options to – how do we block and those kind of things. But before they figure out we should try and win as many matches,” Tendulkar added
After the ODI series, India will be locking horns with South Africa in a three-match T20 International series. The spinners will be looking forward to replicating their form in the upcoming series and help India defeat South Africa. The first game will be played on February 17 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
