Sam Billings backs English players to get picked in IPL auctions

The 10th edition of the IPL is all set to get underway in a couple of months. Needless to say, the build up is on the rise with the IPL auctions round the corner. A plethora of cricketers are expected to go under the hammer. The most notable ones, though, would be the English players. Over the years, very few English players have made their presence felt in the popular league. Delhi Daredevils had one such revelation in Sam Billings last year.

Billings made the most of the opportunities that he got last year. Now, the English batsman is all pumped up for the upcoming season. Moreover, he believes that his fellow English players will also be a big hit in the cash rich league this year. The likes of Joe Root, Chris Jordan, Ben Stokes, Jason Roy and Alex Hales are all among the ones expected to be in the auctions.

Sam Billings has backed his team mates to do well at the auctions and subsequently in the tournament as well. In a recent conversation with the BBC, Billings talked about the same. He mentioned that the performances of the England team in the ICC World T20 in India will help their case for sure.

“I do. I mean we are one of the ODI and T20 teams on the rise massively. Our performance in T20 World Cup in India was a massive feat for the English side. So yes, there will be a few names that will definitely get picked up,” quoted Billings.

He further added that he has given his inputs to his franchise Delhi Daredevils regarding the English players. He cited that the Daredevils do not have many slots to fill. Had there been more, he would have wanted all his England team mates in the league.

“I have already put my thoughts forward to Delhi and any advice that they will probably need. Unfortunately, we have only got a couple of spots to fill otherwise I would have got most of mates here,” said Sam Billings further.
