Shahid Afridi has a suggestion for the BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) not allowing their cricketers to play in the foreign T20 leagues is a never-ending debate. There are only a few instances when they have given a NOC to the cricketers to play overseas apart from the players featuring in County cricket. Yusuf Pathan, earlier this year, played in the Dhaka Premier League which is Bangladesh’s domestic One-Day tournament. However, Shahid Afridi feels that the Indian players should play the other T20 leagues and show their support.

Ever since the Indian Premier League (IPL) has become a sensation in 2008, a plethora of T20 leagues have come into existence and apart from a few nations, all the countries have their own leagues now with Cricket South Africa (CSA) recently announcing their Mzansi Super League T20 after a lot of deliberation.

It will be better for cricket

Shahid Afridi is currently playing in the inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) in Sharjah. He is featuring for the Paktia Panthers who have already qualified for the semi-finals. He believes that the Indian cricketers will bring stardom by playing in the T20 leagues other than the IPL and it will also be better for the game.

“When you are playing in a league, you are also supporting the cricket of that country which is hosting the league. Indian players should, therefore, play in leagues other than the Indian Premier League (IPL),” the 38-year-old was quoted as saying by bdcrictime.

Afridi himself has played for 14 different T20 franchises during his illustrious career. Paktia Panthers is his latest team and it remains to be seen if he will continue playing even after this league. The legendary cricketer is struggling with his injuries time and again and had to miss the majority of matches in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as well.
