After losing the first two matches of the ODI World Cup 2023, Australia were dismissed as one of the contenders to win the tournament. They first lost to India and then to South Africa but from the third match, the Pat Cummins-led side made a turnaround and won nine matches on the trot to lift the trophy at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

On the night of the finals, Australia restricted the Men in Blue to 240 runs and chased it down with absolute ease to win their sixth ODI world title in history. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne were incredible, with the bat as Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs to get the job done for the Kangaroos. After the conclusion of the match, opener David Warner took to X to take a dig at the critics and remind them that one should never count Australia out.

“Well did you see that happening?? We did, come on Australia. 0-2 and written off," Warner tweeted.

To bowl India out for 240 in a final is absolutely exceptional: Warner

The veteran cricketer lauded the bowlers for restricting India to only 240 runs. Notably, Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets, while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood picked up two each on the night of the final. Courtesy of their incredible bowling, India looked to be under immense pressure in the majority part of the first innings against Australia. Meanwhile, Warner also lauded his opening partner Travis Head, who hit 137 runs and took the game away from India’s reach.

“Our bowlers were fantastic, they set the tone from ball one. The fielding supported that. To bowl India out for 240 in a final is absolutely exceptional. There was a bit of nervous energy in the change room. We kept changing places. But that was a brilliant partnership between Marnus (Labuschagne) and Trav (Head). What a comeback that was from Head, especially after coming back from injury, that was fantastic,” Warner said after the match.
