Rajasthan Royals' influential English opener Jos Buttler bagged an unwanted record to his name after he was dismissed for a fifth duck in IPL 2023, the most in a season, against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. Buttler was sent packing by South African star pacer Kagiso Rabada, making his third duck on the trot for Sanju Samson's team.

England's white-ball skipper Jos Buttler is enduring a horrendous campaign in the ongoing 16th edition of the tournament after his heroics with the bat last season. Buttler sent the record books tumbling in the previous year's edition after claiming the Orange Cap with four centuries to his name, the joint most by a batter in a single season.

While his young opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal has terrorized bowlers with his breathtaking performances this year, Buttler has been a shadow of his former self in this year's competition. The explosive opener was all at sea against Punjab's star pacer Kagiso Rabada in his opening over and was trapped plumb in front of the wicket to register his third successive duck of IPL 2023 and fifth overall this season.

Buttler'a woeful form dents Rajasthan Royals' playoff hopes

He now holds the embarrassing record of being dismissed for the most ducks in a single edition of the competition. It is worth noting that the storied batter failed to open his account on just one occasion before this year's edition.

The Rajasthan-based franchise were hoping for great things from the experienced campaigner this term after failing to get over the line against Gujarat Titans in last year's final. However, Buttler's form in the latter stages of the competition this year has been one of the driving forces behind their sloppy performances.
