He might be out of favour with the national team at the moment but Suresh Raina isn’t done yet. The Uttar Pradesh cricketer was once a match winner for the Men in Blue batting in the middle order along with the then skipper MS Dhoni but over the years he lost consistency and that cost him his spot in the team. One of the most electric Indians on the field Raina has also had troubles with his fitness.

To set things back on the right path the former Gujarat Lions skipper has started his fitness training in the off-season. He posted a video on his Twitter account with a caption- “I don’t sweat, I sparkle! #happyme #fitme #workoutfun #outdoorfitness”

In the video, he has a trainer along with him in an outdoor location and starts with handle pushups as his feet is planted higher from the ground. He then switches to punching with the trainer swinging focus pads in different directions with a lake in the backdrop. Raina also mixed a few kicks around waist high with his punches. The southpaw would certainly want the kicks to get sharper.

It was time for burpees now – an improvised version where he jumps a couple of feet onto a structure and comes down completes a push-up and repeats. This appears to be a high-intensity outdoor workout regime that Raina is following which should not only help him in cutting fat but also improve endurance which is a very important aspect for a cricketer.

Raina last played an ODI for India in 2015 though was a part of the T20I squad as recently as the 3-match home series against England. Raina had a decent IPL with the Lions though the team couldn’t make a mark he was up for it most times scoring crucial runs for them right through the tournament.

Raina was excluded from the Indian team for the Champions Trophy squad. The only silver lining for the left-hander was that he was named as a standby player and would be called up in the case of an injury to any of the players in the squad.
