After almost a five-day break, the Vitality T20 Blast was back in action. During this while, there were a few County Division Two games that were played. After some very intense games in the previous two days of action, the tournament resumed with a one-sided South group encounter that took place in London.

In this game, Middlesex faced Hampshire in a rather boring encounter. Both these teams haven’t had many great results in the tournament thus far. They had managed to win only one out the five matches so far and were sitting at the bottom of the points table. However, with a win here, Middlesex moved slightly up and are currently seventh in the group. Here is how things progressed in this game.

Middlesex vs Hampshire – South Group

Hampshire, after winning the toss, opted to bowl first. But the decision didn’t really end up in their favour. Ireland’s Paul Stirling gave Middlesex the ideal start with a 60-run knock off just 44 balls. Despite losing wickets at the other end, he kept on playing his shots. Their skipper Eoin Morgan was a great disappointment in this game. He joined the side for this game but only managed to score two runs.

Dwayne Bravo scored 20 off 9 balls towards the end which helped the hosts post a total of 165 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs. Hampshire would definitely regret the 16 extras that they conceded in the innings.

Chasing the target, Hampshire were in the course of winning the game until the 10th over. Although they lost their skipper James Vince early, Colin Munro and Sam Northeast kept them interested. While Munro scored 58 off 29, Northeast chipped in with 27 off 22 balls.

But Ashton Agar’s twin blows in the 11th overturned things dramatically. The visitors soon lost 4 wickets in 12 balls towards the business end of the game and were not in the race since then. They were bowled out for 143 falling well short of the target by 22 runs.

Brief Scores:

Middlesex: 165/8 in 20 overs (Paul Stirling 60, Max Holden 22, Fidel Edwards 2/30)

Hampshire: 143/10 in 18.5 overs (Colin Munro 58, Sam Northeast 27, Ashton Agar 3/17)

Result: Middlesex won by 22 runs

Man of the Match: Ashton Agar
