Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been in prime form of late, representing India ‘A’ across various formats. He toured with the team in England to play a couple of four-day match against England Lions and Windies ‘A’. In the first match against the Windies ‘A’ in Taunton, the 24-year-old notched a couple of four-wicket hauls to help his team win the match by five wickets.

Even in the next match against the Lions in Worcester, the Hyderabad-born fast-bowler picked up seven wickets, four in the first and three in the second innings. The home team won the match by a humongous margin of 253 runs, but the right-arm seamer came in the selector’s radar. He was then selected to play the two-match unofficial Test series against South Africa ‘A’ in India.

Siraj ignored for the upcoming Asia Cup

Siraj churned out ten wickets in the first match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and helped India ‘A’ win the match by a massive margin of an innings and 30 runs. Even in the second encounter at Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Stadium in Alur, Siraj nipped out four of the visiting team’s batsmen. He was also the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets from two matches.

Thereafter, Siraj played for India ‘A’ in the quadrangular series, involving India ‘B’, Australia ‘A’ and South Africa ‘A’. In his first match against Australia ‘A’, he leaked 68 runs but got four wickets. He has carried forward his form in the ongoing four-day matches against Australia ‘A’ as well. Despite his stupendous performances, he was ignored for India’s Asia Cup squad.

The tournament will start from September 15 and will be played till September 28 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Instead, Khaleel Ahmed, who has also been impressive in recent times, has been selected. In the meantime, Twitter wasn’t satisfied with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) leaving out the talented fast bowler.
