West Indies have started their T20 World Cup 2022 qualifiers campaign with an agonising defeat against Scotland. George Munsey's unbeaten 66 alongside Mark Watt's brillant three-wicket haul played a huge part in the memorable win for Scotland.
Scotland were put into bat first by the West Indies side and their openers managed to get a fifty-run partnership. Holder cleaned up Michael Jones for a 17-ball 20 while Matthew Cross returned to the pavilion after adding just three runs. Skipper Richie Berrington hit a maximum in his 14-ball 16 while Munsey kept rotating the strike.
Calum Macleod’s 14-ball 23 comprised four boundaries and helped the team's scoring rate considerably. Munsey managed to hang on with a steady knock and accelerated towards the backend of the innings to end up unbeaten on 66 off 53 balls. Chris Greaves supported Munsey with a quickfire unbeaten knock of 16 as Scotland got to 160 in their 20 overs.
West Indies' middle-order falls cheaply
In reply, the West Indies suffered an early blow as Kyle Mayers was dismissed after hitting an entertaining 13-ball 20. Evin Lewis and Brandon King found the gaps for a while in the powerplay, however, a flurry of wickets fell after the pair was removed. The likes of Nicholas Pooran, Shamarh Brooks and Rovman Powell could not make much damage and perished quickly.
At 79 for 8, the game was done and dusted already. Jason Holder was the only hope for the West Indies side, but it was only a matter of time until the Scotland side rolled up the game and West Indies were all out for 118 in the 19th over of the innings. Holder was the last wicket to fall after a valiant innings of 38 while the Scotland bowling attack chipped in with regular wickets.

Interested in your 💭 everyone re: Round 1 #T20WorldCup It seems like it is an advantage for teams to come out to 🇦🇺 & prepare correctly for a big event. Instead of bigger nations playing other series around the 🌎 & then flying in for this event! West Indies going down now to 🏴

Richie Berrington was on receiving end of 1 of the worst umpiring decisions in ICC tournament history just before the rain arrived vs West Indies at 2018 WCQ in Zimbabwe, a decision that cost Scotland a place at 2019 WC in England. Imagine how good he must feel as captain today. pic.twitter.com/TvaG3skHQw

Such an awesome start to the T20I World Cup. Namibia & Scotland doing well against traditional giants of the format. Higher the number of competitive teams, higher the quality of cricket overall.
