The West Indies are well in the driver’s seat to wrap up the second and final Test match against Bangladesh in a winning fashion at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium Gros Islet in St Lucia. The visitors have been comprehensively outplayed by a spirited Windies unit in the last three days of this contest.

The third day was no different either as the ball seemed to be in Bangladesh’s court when they bowled out the visitors, but they failed to carry on the momentum when it was their turn to bat and ended up losing the plot completely by suffering a dramatic batting collapse that now sees them have a first innings deficit and only four wickets in hand.

West Indies bowlers decimate Bangladesh batters on the third day

Resuming his innings from the overnight score of 126, Kyle Mayers added 20 more runs to his tally before being sent back four short of a well-deserved 150. While the tail-enders could not do much thereafter, only senior pacer Kemar Roach showed great character by scoring an unbeaten 18 runs from 52 deliveries as the West Indies were all out for 408.

While the Bangladesh bowlers did their job, the onus was completely on the batters from there on as the hosts already had a mammoth first innings lead of 174 runs. However, the batters let them down as the West Indies were on the attack right from the word ‘go’ and went on to pick up wickets at regular intervals.

Except for Najmul Hossain Shanto, none of the other batters could stage any fightback and give him the much-needed support during the need of the hour and once the number three batter was dismissed for 42, even skipper Shakib Al Hasan who was the last recognized batter for Bangladesh, could not hang around there for too long.

The visitors’ scorecard read 132/6 at stumps with wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan batting on 16 and Mehidy Hasan yet to open his account.
