The ongoing ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand has witnessed a fascinating contest between the willow and the red cherry. While Indian batters shone on Day 2 of the contest, momentum shifted in New Zealand’s favour on the third day. If one has to sum up, Test cricket has been at its best at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, and the relentless chanting of the spectators backs the fact.
Fans in the stadium have constantly been cheering their favourite teams through posters, banners, slogans and even songs. However, not all posters exhibited on the ground were about the match. While watching the historic game, a fan showed a placard with ‘Valimai Update,’ written over it. The viewer was apparently seeking updates for the upcoming Tamil movie Valimai, starring veteran actor Ajith Kumar.

For the versed, the highly-awaited action-thriller has been in the works for over a year but any developments regarding the release date or the status of the movie is still not known. This resulted in a section of fans looking for updates about the film from every possible place. Earlier this year, spectators also Ravichandran Ashwin and Moeen Ali about the movie during India vs England Test match in Chennai.
When Ravi Ashwin and Moeen Ali were asked about ‘Valimai Update’
“I was standing at the boundary line when I heard someone calling me ‘Thala Ashwin… Ashwin..’ When I responded, the person asked me, ‘What about Valimai update?’ The next day, Moeen (Ali) asked me what is Valimai? Looks like the same crowd asked him about Valimai update too,” Ashwin had revealed.
Coming to the WTC final, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and unsurprisingly, opted to bowl on a green Southampton track. While Day 1 was entirely washed out due to rain, the second day saw Indian batsmen’s resilience as they were 146/3 at stumps. However, the Blackcaps bounced back on Day 3 and bundled India out for mere 217 runs. Denting them further, New Zealand were 101/2 at the end of the day’s play.
Kane Williamson’s men are trailing by just 116 runs, and with eight wickets in hand, they would be aiming to get a substantial lead. However, the track is still assisting the fast bowlers, and the Indian pacers will always be in the hunt. Hence, it would be interesting to see how Day 4 of the summit clash pans out.
