Vijay Mallya pokes fun at RCB's new logo; fans hit back to troll him

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), one of the original franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) who are yet to win the title, have recently upgraded their logo ahead of the 13th season of the glitzy tournament. The logo invited a mixed response from the fans but they got together to give it back to Vijay Mallya, the franchise’s former chairman who has now taken shelter in the UK in the wake of defaulting on loans.

The Royal Challengers’ fans have remained disappointed over the fact that not once could their dream team win the IPL in the first 12 years. RCB made the finals thrice but on all occasions, they failed to cross the final hurdle. In 2009, they lost to the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in South Africa while in 2011, they lost to Chennai Super Kings and in 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished as the better side in the final.

Current captain Virat Kohli has been leading the side since 2013 but not once has he tasted the success of giving Bangalore the elusive IPL title. The RCB have done particularly poorly in the last three seasons and even an overhauling of players and coaching crew has not helped.

Vijay Mallya called logo ‘great’ but asked RCB to win the trophy

The 64-year-old tycoon Mallya reacted to the new RCB logo on Twitter saying it looked “great” but also asked the team to win the title, in an apparent dig. The fans, despite their own disappointments with the RCB’s failure, did not appreciate it and hit out at Mallya over the allegations of money-laundering against him.

Several thousand crores of rupees are involved in the loan offence. Most or all of them criticised Mallya over the loans that he took while one went on to say that the RCB’s ill-luck is a curse of his own misdeeds.
