Virat Kohli recalls the time when a waiter failed to recognise him

Team India skipper Virat Kohli enjoys supreme popularity in the cricket world. He is revered as one of the best in the modern day game. He finds himself among the fans at almost every possible place that he visits. His ever increasing fan base can give celebrity goals to many. With such a backdrop set for his stardom, many would wonder that almost every cricket loving country will have fans desperate to share a moment with the Indian captain.

This is certainly true in most cases. However, there have been times when Virat Kohli has gone unnoticed as well. Recently, during an interview with ESPN, Kohli recalled a moment when he assumed that a person came his way to shake hands with him. But it turned out to be a case that the person simply ignored Kohli. This happened when the Indian team toured South Africa in the 2017-18 season.

This was a big tour for Kohli and his men as the Indian team played the three formats of the game. They lost the Test series 2-1 but had a dramatic comeback in the final Test which they will cherish for a long time. Later, the Indian team registered clinical wins in the ODI and the T20I series.

Kohli’s hand goes unnoticed

During the tour, Virat Kohli and some of his teammates had been out for a dinner. Soon, a waiter at the restaurant identified Kohli and decided to shake hands with him. Moments later, another waiter came in and outstretched his hand. Assuming that the waiter would shake hands with him, Kohli extended his arm as well. But much to his surprise, the waiter ignored Kohli’s hand and ended up taking up the plate that was on the table. All the other members on the table laughed really hard at the embarrassment that he had.

“These guys went mad. I felt so embarrassed. He didn’t even look at my hand!” Kohli narrated the incident during his interview with ESPN. In another incident that Kohli described, he was spotted in Finland by three Indians. Kohli was in Finland with his wife, Anushka Sharma, on his honeymoon. The Indian fans clicked pictures with them. But then, Kohli requested them not to put the pictures on the social media and the fans obeyed their request.
