VVS Laxman and Dean Jones were in conversation with presenter Harsh Bhogle. The channel showed Sapru and Wasim Akram visiting a zoo and during the trip, Sapru asked Wasim, “Which cricketer will you relate the lion too?” This sparked a very interesting discussion between Harsh Bhogle and Laxman, who was asked to related cricketers with animals based on the similarities of their qualities and here are Laxman’s comparisons:

Lion – Imran Khan

Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup winning captain, the mercurial all-rounder Imran Khan was the first player compared by Wasim Akram during the mid-innings show.

He compared the former captain to a lion, saying that he was like a lion when it came to leading his team on the field. He encouraged a cornered Pakistan during the 1992 World Cup, to come out and win the remaining matches and qualify for the semifinals.

Tiger – Sourav Ganguly

The former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly was compared with a tiger or a royal Bengal tiger to be exact. This was due to his aggressive nature in captaincy while leading India to great heights during the early 2000s.

Ganguly hails from Bengal and the state is known for Tigers from Sundarbans and the comparison seemed to be well suited.

Kangaroo – Virender Sehwag

Funnily, Laxman compared the dashing opener Virender Sehwag to a kangaroo. The hopping marsupials are known for leaping a great distance and are ferocious fighters.

Laxman compared the only Indian to hit two triple centuries in Test cricket to a kangaroo, because of the fighting spirit that Sehwag has and because Sehwag never knew how to take a step forward and knew just to be on the offensive.

Fox – Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh, who was the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in Test cricket, was compared to fox. This was due to the cunningness and intelligence that the off-spinner possessed, which he used in abundance in order to pick up 417 Test and 269 ODI wickets.

Elephant – Sachin Tendulkar

The master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was compared to an elephant by VVS Laxman. Don’t be shocked, he did the comparison due to the little master’s ability to remember things that others forgot. He remembered each and every weakness of the opposition and his presence was nothing less than an elephant’s in the world of cricket.

Eagle – Glenn Maxwell

Man of the match in the third ODI, Glen Maxwell was compared to an eagle by Laxman. This was done due to the pinpoint shot placement by Maxwell, during his brilliant innings of 96. Maxwell showed the sense of an eagle to pick out minute gaps in fielding to place his reverse sweeps and slogs.

Snake – Rahul Dravid

Don’t fret!! Laxman only compared Dravid to a snake because of Dravid’s quality of silently accumulating runs. He dug his heels in and continued to score runs at an easy pace and was not disturbed by anything else going on in the field. He just focused on the task at hand and nothing else.

Rhinoceros – MS Dhoni

Laxman very well compared the former Indian captain MS Dhoni with a rhinoceros. MS Dhoni is built like a tank with muscular forearms and legs and thighs like tree trunks. This helps him run fast between the wickets and provides ample strength to Dhoni to hit those massive helicopter shots against fastest of the bowlers.

Cheetah – Virat Kohli

Indian Test captain Virat Kohli was compared to a cheetah by Laxman, thanks to the energy and aggressiveness shown by the best Indian batsman in the world today. Virat Kohli has impressed everyone with his energy in the field and his batting and running between the wickets during his two consecutive centuries.
