After the three-match ODI series, India Women and Australia Women are geared up to take part in the only Day-Night, starting Thursday, September 30 at the Carrara Oval in Queensland. India lost the ODIs 1-2 and ahead of the pink-ball Test, they have been jolted with a blow.
Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out after she failed to recover from a thumb injury that she suffered before the ODIs. The Aussies have had their travails as well after Racheal Haynes was ruled out of their entire campaign due to a hamstring injury.
However, the hosts have found an able opener in the form of Beth Mooney, who scored a ton in the second ODI followed by a half-century at the Harrup Park. Fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck wasn’t a part of the 50-over games and she won’t play the Test either.
Australia are set for their first Test match since they faced England in a drawn Test two years ago in July 2019. Ellyse Perry became the Player of the Match after she scored a ton in the very first innings of the game. India, on the contrary, played a Test three months ago against England in Bristol.
Mithali Raj, their skipper, sounded curious about facing the pink ball, especially in the twilight period. Australia and India have faced each other nine times in Test cricket and the hosts have won on four instances.
It’s pertinent to note that India have never beaten the Aussies in the purest format. The last time when the two sides met back in February 2006, Australia won by an innings and four runs at the Adelaide Oval. Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami were parts of the eleven 15 years ago.
Playing combination for AUSW vs INDW
Australia Women
It won’t be a surprise if Australia pack their lineup with fast bowlers due to the playing conditions. Sophie Molineux bowled brilliantly in the ODI series and she might be the only tweaker in the Aussie lineup. Ellyse Perry didn’t quite have the outing she would have expected to have in the ODI series.
Mooney would be looking to carry on from where she left off in the shorter format. Tahia McGrath was impressive in the ODIs, both with bat and ball and the onus will also be on her as well. Darcie Brown and Annabel Sutherland performed to expectations and they’ll be looking to perform well.
Predicted XI: Beth Mooney, Alyssa Healy (wk), Meg Lanning (C), Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Annabel Sutherland, Hannah Darlington, Tahia McGrath, Nicola Carey, Sophie Molineux, Darcie Brown
Bench: Georgia Redmayne, Maitlan Brown, Stella Campbell, Georgia Wareham, Molly Strano
India Women
Yastika Bhatia was impressive in the ODIs and she should get a chance in the Test as well. Shafali Verma became the Player of the Match when India locked horns with England three months ago. The prodigy showed sparks of brilliance in the ODI series and would be looking to get a big score.
Shikha Pandey may make his way into the squad. Meghna Singh generated decent swing with the white ball and it’ll be interesting to see what she does with the pink ball. Richa Ghosh was excellent in the ODIs, but Taniya Bhatia played well in England. India will have to make a choice between them.
Predicted XI:
Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues/Yastika Bhatia, Punam Raut, Mithali Raj (C), Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey, Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana, Jhulan Goswami, Meghna Singh
Bench: Jemimah Rodrigues/Yastika Bhatia, Ekta Bisht, Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav, Taniya Bhatia/Richa Ghosh, Rajeshwari Gayakwad
