Dinesh Karthik was a part of the squad when India lifted the Champions Trophy in 2013. He did not get many opportunities to bat and got 82 runs in 4 innings at an average of 41. Karthik looked in ominous touch in the practice games scoring an unbeaten 141. The right-hander has had considerable success in domestic cricket this season particularly in the one-day games.

He topped the batting charts in the Vijay Hazare Trophy scoring 607 runs in 9 games at an average of 86.71 which included 4 fifties and 2 hundred. He saved the best for the finals. Playing against Bengal, he helped Tamil Nadu to get to a fighting total of 217 on the backs of a terrific 120-ball 112. Karthik’s century was enough for Tamil Nadu to clinch the title.

He kept his good form in the Deodhar Trophy where he again helped his state side to a title win on the backs of yet another hundred in the finals. He has carried that form into the IPL, where he plays for the Gujarat Lions. Karthik, 31, has recently expressed his desire to play for the country across formats. Maybe he can be included in the squad as a back-up wicket-keeper to MS Dhoni.
