Bangladesh spilled a golden chance that was in their hands to register a series win with 2nd consecutive victory at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Bangladesh’s top order contributed in the 272-run chase and the equation was well within their reach. The visitors needed eight runs from the last seven balls with six wickets in hand before Sabbir Rahman and Mushfiqur Rahim got out on full tosses in consecutive deliveries as they ended up three runs short of Windies’ total. Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer struck a 93-ball 125 with seven sixes and three fours to help the hosts score 271.

2Bangladesh’s innings is only the second in an unsuccessful ODI chase where three of their top five batsmen scored fifties and the other two scored more than 20 runs. India’s top five too scored 20+ including three fifties during the 2017 Bangalore ODI against Australia and they lost by 21 runs.


2 – Shimron Hetmyer is the first Windies player to score two centuries in ODI format before turning 22. As many as five Windies batsmen scored one ODI ton before turning 22.


3 – Bangladesh’s 3-run defeat in this game is their 2nd narrowest defeat in ODI cricket. They lost to Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup Final by 2 runs while chasing a target of 237.


3 – Number of wickets Bangladesh lost in the first 45 overs of their innings. They are the only the 2nd team to lose only three wickets in the first 45 overs in a chase and end up on the losing side since the start of 2008. India lost their 4th wicket at 46.1 during the 2015 Kanpur ODI against South Africa and ended up losing the game by five runs.


4.4 – Bangladesh reached the 50-run mark in 4.4 overs making it their fastest team fifty in ODI cricket. Their previous fastest was in 4.5 overs in the 2011 World Cup opening game against India.


21 – Shakib Al Hasan now has scored a fifty and took multiple wickets on 21 instances in his ODI career. Only Jacques Kallis (23) scored fifty and took two and more wickets in the same ODI on more occasions.


21y 211d – Shimron Hetmyer became the youngest Windies player to score an ODI century in West Indies at the age of 21 years and 211 days. Desmond Haynes was the previous youngest Windies player to score an ODI ton at home when he scored 148 against Australia in 1978 at the age of 22 years 7 days. Imran Nazir, Ahmed Shehzad and Shakib Al Hasan scored centuries in Windies as teenagers.


255.56 – Anamul Haque’s batting strike-rate of 255.56 during his 9-ball 23 is the highest batting strike-rate for a Bangladesh opener in an ODI inning. (Min: 20 runs) No other Bangladesh opener had a 200+ SR in an ODI inning where they scored at least 20 runs. Junaid Siddique scored 23 off 12 balls at a SR of 191.67 against Zimbabwe in the 2009 Dhaka ODI.
