The ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2019, on Wednesday morning, witnessed some interesting cricketing action as the first game was won by the team batting first whereas the other one saw some brilliant run chase with sheer dominance over the bowlers. Also, Brisbane Heat took the pole position in the points table with 10 points in 8 matches.

In the first game of the day, Ellyse Perry’s Sydney Sixers registered a convincing win over Hobart Hurricanes, who can be spotted in the lower half of the charts. With the help of skipper’s brilliant knock (70 runs in 56 balls) the Sixers posted a mammoth total of 172 runs for the loss of two wickets.

The batters of Sydney Sixers started off well and smacked 59 runs in first six overs without any loss. Alyssa Healy looked dangerous as she amassed 39 runs off 24 deliveries at a strike rate of 162.50 before getting bowled to Nicola Carey. In the end, Erin Burns played a brief cameo off 26 runs in 16 balls that ended Sixers innings on a high.

Coming onto the chase, Hobart Hurricanes batters couldn’t resist the pressure of a big chase and the whole team got dismissed at a score of 133 runs in 18 overs. No batter except their captain could manage to play a sensible knock. Corrine Hall and Fran Wilson stitched a partnership of 59 runs for the 4th wicket and as soon as the former got dismissed, the other players threw their wickets cheaply that led to Hobart facing their 6th defeat of the tournament.

Openers dish out the fifth win for Brisbane Heat in WBBL 2019

Mignon du Preez’s brilliant effort with the bat went in vain against the league toppers Brisbane Heat due to the commendable knock coming from the willow of their openers. Melbourne Stars got off to a poor start and lost both the openers in the first three overs of the match. After that, Du Preez and Annabel Sutherland knitted a partnership of 102 runs for the team that helped them in order to post a respectable total of 165 runs on the scoreboard.

But, brilliant fifties from the openers of Brisbane Heat took the match away from the Stars. Beth Mooney (70 runs off 60 balls) and Maddy Green ( 56 runs of 33 balls) stitched a decent partnership of 92 runs. Later on, Jess Jonassen didn’t take much time and smacked 37 runs at a strike rate of 142.31 to finish the game with three balls remaining.

Now, Brisbane Heat is leading the points table which is looking pretty competitive. The top four teams have the same number of wins to their name and are separated due to the net run-rate.
