Virat Kohli delivered when it mattered the most. During the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s must-win league game against an in-form Gujarat Titans, the batting megastar ensured that his side did not suffer any early setbacks as he took the responsibility of anchoring the chase on a sluggish Wankhede wicket.

He counter-attacked the Gujarat bowlers and also found good support in skipper Faf du Plessis who scored 44 runs off 38 balls. After his match-winning knock, Kohli has explained the reason behind him cheering for the Mumbai Indians who will be facing the Delhi Capitals in their final league game at the Wankhede Stadium on May 21.

We have 2 more supporters for Mumbai: Virat Kohli

“Trying to put our feet up and chill out for two days and support Mumbai. We have two more supporters for Mumbai, not just 2 but I think 25 more supporters,” Kohli said in an interview for the IPL. “You might see us in the stadium as well,” he added while du Plessis already began the “Mumbai, Mumbai” chants.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore might have won this crucial game and gone up to the fourth position in the points table with 16 points to their tally. However, they cannot afford to take a breather yet as their future in the competition completely depends on the outcome of the Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals encounter. Delhi currently have 14 points to their tally and occupy fifth place.

Should DC defeat MI, then they will ultimately make the playoffs with 16 points. The reason behind this is the Rishabh Pant-led side has a far superior net run rate as compared to Bangalore whose NRR reads -0.253.

Coming back to RCB’s just-concluded fixture against the Titans, Virat Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his blistering 73 runs from 54 deliveries that helped Bangalore register an impressive eight-wicket win. Meanwhile, this was also his second half-century of the season. The batting icon would be hoping to make the most of his form should RCB make it to the knockouts.
